he Canadian Forces operational tempo has never been higher than during the last ten years. Since the early 1990s the military has been called upon to conduct both peacekeeping and peacemaking operations, humanitarian work, maritime interdiction operations, disaster relief, and even war.
Young Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen have been involved in operations around the world in countries such as Afghanistan, Rwanda, the Balkans, East Timor, Somalia, Macedonia, Sierra Leone, Kuwait, Haiti and Kosovo. At home they have been heavily involved in dealing with natural disasters such as river flooding in Manitoba and Quebec, assisting in forest firefighting in British Columbia, and ice storms in central Canada. Their heroic work in Search and Rescue missions is of legendary proportions.
